Foot Bridge

One day, while driving out Coon Creek, I came across this old foot bridge. It looks in good shape and, as you can see, it was made for high water. As far as I know this old bridge is still there, still ready for when it is needed.

RENO by night!

I visited Reno, NV a few years back and learned to love it. I rented a car and went to Lake Tahoe and Virginia City, man that drive was great.

Autumn Cruise

Taken at the Upper Mud River Lake. This lake is hidden in the middle of Lincoln County and is a wonderful get-a-way. Be warned...this place is in the middle of nowhere and the local gas station does not take plastic!

Hobbit House

I found these while walking in the woods around the Sportsman Club, near Winfield WV.

Flight

For once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return. -- Leonardo de Vinci

Stonewall

The statue of General "Stonewall" Jackson stands at the south east corner of the West Virginia Capital Complex. During the summer the capital grounds are bustling with activities, even at night. Other statues grace the capital grounds but none are so beautifully silhouetted as this. It seems to say to me "Southern heritage and West Virginia Pride".

Just Wondering Around...

Kretzulescu Church - Nestled among government buildings along Revolution Square this small Red Brick Church caught my eye.
Kretzulescu Church, Bucharest, Romania - I was wondering around on my first trip to the city and I came across this small, red brick church. I walk inside and an old woman started pointing to all the icons of the Saints. She was speaking in Romanian but some of the names were coming thru to me. This church was built in the mid 1700's and is still in use. Some of my friends don't like Bucharest, but I love it.

This photo is a panoramic view of Kanawha Fall. On a quite fall day Bub's and I decided to just get lost for awhile and we ended up here. We roamed around the park and then had lunch at the Inn next to the water. The leaves had just started to turn thier fall colors.

Mountain Music

I have posted a lot of my photos on http://picasaweb.google.com. I am listed as WVStarCatcher and my album is "The Way I See It". This Bass Violin was at the state capital this past weekend for the Vandalia Gathering.

Bub's and I went to the Vandalia Gathering at the state capital today. We listened to Dulcimer Music and got to watch folk dancers. Blue Grass Music isn't really up my alley but the chance to get outside, with lots of people, see and hear things I haven't seen before made it in to a great afternoon. Bub's found some Angel art for her sister and I got to take lots of pictures. If you have never been to the Vandalia Gathering you are missing out on a good, relaxing time.

Yesterday, Saturday, my wife and daughter went to the Huntington Mall to do some dress shopping. I was invited but I declined. While they were away I grabbed my camera and got in to my 454 packing’, ‘95 Chevy extended cab, Long Bed, pickup truck, and went for a short (13 MPG) ride. Along the way I spotted this old barn on Rt. 60, which bought back memories of how life used to be in and around Hurricane, WV. In the 1960’s and 70’s Hurricane was just a small town with one Policeman, one stoplight, and a volunteer fire department that had a huge fire (AIR RAID) siren that you could hear for miles. Teays Valley was a road, not a community. Before Play Station’s and iPod’s, my friends and I would play in barns around the area, pretending they were forts, or just climbing around looking for snakes. If your family raised Tobacco you could be excused from school in the spring for planting. If the Mail Pouch Tobacco Company would buy your Tobacco they would offer to paint your barn showing that your Tobacco was chosen as “the best” and a source of pride for the farmer. Today, Tobacco farmers are disappearing and so are the old tobacco barns. Grab the kid’s and/or grandkids and take a drive down memory lane; it might just have an old “Mail Pouch” barn.

Let's all be thankful to, and for, the men and women that have served our country. We may not always agree on the politics but we are always "By The Grace of God" Free Americans!
