I Love My Herc

When the humidity gets just right the props of the C-130 will whip the air and create "ribbons".

A road trip to the mountains of West Virginia

In early June my wife and I decided to get lost for awhile, you know, just to get some silence and peace.  We ended up at an Inn in Greenbrier County called "the Brazen Head Inn"  It was a great little place to spend the night.  The next morning we set out just to see what we could see, no plans just the road in front of us.  One of our stops this day was a park near Cranberry Glades named "Hill's Creek Falls".  This photo is of the middle falls.

The Hurricane

Kind of makes ya want to Salute!

Old Ships

These are some of the old fishing boats along the inter coastal waterway near Holden Beach, NC. I would love to spend a day on one of these boats just to see what it was like.

Holden Beach Pier

It was a nice night for a stroll along Holden Beach. My wife, daughter and I walked from our house to the ice cream shoppe next to the pier. We love taking night walks, especially when the sea turtle eggs are hatching. This year we didn't see any baby turtles but the walk was just as fine and full of special memories.
We have just returned from our vacation to the beach. This year our niece, her husband and our great niece came along. This is the first time she has ever fed the Sea Gulls. At one point she had about 30 gulls on the ground and in the air, all squawking at her to throw me more food. Her smile tells the rest of the story.

Sunsets

The sunrise is Gods greeting - the sunset, his signature.

I don't know who many times I have been flying overnight and I have climbed to the Cockpit to see beautiful sunsets and sunrises. This is just one of the many blessing I have been given, and I am thankful.
Did I tell you about our Cruise. We went on a 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Sun. To make a long story short Day Two way great, Bub's got to swim with the Dolphins in Nassau, Bahama's, Day Three was at sea and great...until the ship broke down. Yep, one of clutches would not engage so we did not make it to St Thomas or St Martin. Instead we hit a small hidden resort in the Dominican Republic, spent two days a sea again, went to a small island in the Bahama's (see photo) then they let us off back at our port. Overall it was OK, Yes we are going on another one next year and yes they gave us a great deal on another cruise because of their ship. Call me stupid but we are looking forward to our next 10 day cruise to the pirate island of the Caribbean.

A day trip to Fayette County

On our way back from an overnight stay at Glade Springs Resort my son, wife and I took the long way home up US Route 119, thru Oak Hill and Fayetteville. We joined US Route 60 at Hico and headed west towards Ansted. A friend of mine who lives in Ansted told me about a nice small waterfall on a small creek that leads to the New River. Along the creek runs a rough road that leads from town past a abandoned railroad and trestle turned into a walking path. Along the path you also pass an abandoned mine tunnel dating back to 1921. We made it all the way down the, sometimes one lane road to the New River where you can fish or walk other paths. The creek is wild enough and deep enough to take a cool (COLD) dip if you get too hot. Give it about until the middle of May and this path will be full of Rhododendrons and other wild flowers. It a great place to spend a day walking and just getting out of your winter rut.

My Job and why I Love It!

Tell me where I can find another job that allows me to fulfill my sense of adventure while taking care of my family and serve my country. In this picture we are flying up the Florida coast just off Cape Canaveral where we got to see the Shuttle on the pad for the 5 April 2010 launch.

Cardinals

Well it snowed again in West Virginia and all you hear is people complaining about it. I like the snow and I love taking pictures of things that are snow related. I always make sure my feeders are full so the birds will come by for a free meal. So when they come by I have them set still so I can take their picture. These are yearling Cardinals. They fill be fully red by the summer. Thanks for looking in.

Camp Creek State Park

This past Monday we ventured to Camp Creek State Park where we found Campbell Falls. It is a beautiful park with two small waterfalls. I can't wait for spring and all the Laural's blooming around the area.

"Longing for Flight"

I have always loved the P-51, nothing sounds like it when it taxi's by, when it is on a Takeoff Roll, and the truly magnificent sound as it fly's past and goes into a victory role. In WWII this war bird earned it's wings and we are all free because of it, the other aircraft, crews, maintainers, and nearly 20,000 airman that gave their lives over Europe and in the Pacific. If you want to have a hero read the story of SSgt Henry "Red" Erwin, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor as a radio operator on a B-29 over Japan.

Twin Falls Day Trip

Today we set out to Twin Falls State Park in Wyoming County , WV. It was a nice day for a drive and the fall colors in this area are at their peak. I would climb down the sides of the river bank, on to the slick rocks and play Nat Geo Photographer. Bubbles did not like the fact that she could not see me and then after she could not see or hear me she got worried. I now have to wear a bell when I go of exploring so she can find me. The Lodge is under construction but the restaurant is still open. the four some on the park Golf Curse didn't stop the family of Deer from grazing on the 8th green. We left the park and drove over the New River Bridge. I love the day trips that Bub's and I take and can't wait for the net one.

Autumn in the Park

Just me playing around with de-saturation...again! Hope you like it.
